Hematology Consult
The Hematology consult service at LAG-USC Medical Center consists of 2 teams each with an attending physician, a fellow, 1-6 interns and/or senior residents, and sometimes a medical student. Consults are accepted at any time from medicine teams, non-medicine teams, and the ED.

Daily Schedule: 7:30am – 5:30pm
There are 2 Hematology consult teams. Each team includes: 1-2 Residents, 1 fellow, 1 attending
Hematology Consult A: Non-Malignant
Hematology Consult B: Malignant
Daily schedule is dependent on attending and clinic schedule, but rounds will generally take place at 10am

Consults may be called in by the Emergency Department, OB/Gyn triage, or any primary inpatient service, including, but not limited to general inpatient medicine, MICU, ACS, SICU.
Consults will be sent to the Fellow who will then distribute consults to the team on Teams
Consults will be noted as being Emergent, Urgent, or Routine
Emergent consults must be reviewed and co-signed by fellow and/or faculty within two hours. Review by faculty must occur within 24 hours or sooner if appropriate.
Urgent consults must be reviewed and co-signed by fellow and/or faculty within 8 hours. Review by faculty must occur within 24 hours.
Routine consults must be seen, reviewed, and co-signed by fellow and/or faculty within 24 hours. Fellows may review and co-sign consultations prior to review by faculty.

Residents will attending both Hematology Clinics, regardless of their assigned team:
Malignant Hematology Clinic: Tuesdays 1pm-5pm (Clinic Tower A2C)
Jail Hematology Clinic: Wednesday morning, variable times of patients (Jail RN will reach out to the team)
Non-Malignant Hematology Clinic: Thursdays 1pm-5pm (Clinic Tower A2C)

For malignant hematology consults, ensure there is a thorough hematologic history including past imaging, chemotherapy or other hematologic treatments, and relevant labs.
For non-malignant hematology consults, there often a focus on laboratory data and trends. Please review and be prepared to present pertinent laboratory data and analysis during rounds.
Hematologic conditions generally require a high degree of reasoning and diagnostics to determine the appropriate diagnosis. Notes should reflect this reasoning and understanding and literature should be referenced when appropriate.
Consults should be followed until the problem is resolved and appropriate follow-up notes by the consult team should be made in the chart. When the consulting group discontinues follow-up, this should be indicated by a note in the chart.

Team members are expected to communicate all recommendations to the primary teams after rounds, by end of day via Voip or Teams.
Hematology Clinic
The Hematology Diseases clinic occurs on Tuesday/Thursday at 1pm in Clinic Tower building A on the second floor. We also provide care to incarcerated patients through the jail clinic in 1E
